ARTIST STATEMENT: My work documents the co-presence of built and non-built environments — exploring the relationships within and between these constructed environments. In particular, I am interested in temporal proximities and social and cultural coding within the confines of these spaces. Some of my earlier work chronicles barren constructed environments consumed with the use of empty space as its only, yet necessary, action. My work then extended to a surveying of constructed environments that contained overt activity — with the built environment now receding as its pictorial "set". As a current tier to my work, the suburban front lawn has served as the perfect scape to merge my explorations of the interplay of constructed, the cultivated and domestic coded activity — be it actual or fictional. Some of my most recent work involves creating and controlling micro-sized constructed space; these temporary constructs are infused and coded within personal domestic memoryscapes.
